Career history at Hilti
I started my journey with Hilti in Western Europe, in October 2015. While I would join the company leading digital marketing & e-commerce teams and I was already coming from a management experience with my previous employer, I had the opportunity to spend 4 months full-time as an account manager as part of my onboarding program with the company. This experience was not only great fun (!) but has equipped me with extremely valuable learnings for anything that I have done ever since. I quote this as just one of the many examples that show how Hilti is long-sighted and proximate in supporting one’s career and personal development!
In the following two years I enjoyed developing myself across two different roles in product, services and software marketing in Western Europe: at first managing a specific market segment and later growing responsibilities to ~half of Hilti offering, leading a capable international team of product managers across France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Since late 2018 I am tasked with the ambitious program of establishing data-driven, behavioural marketing at Hilti, globally. Among technology scouting and implementation, defining and executing a global strategy, building a team and running global operations – I have been enjoying one of the greatest learning experiences I could ever imagine: what a blast it has been!
If I look back at the past 5 years, I do feel that I got part of a family where I can have a say with business decisions and deliver tangible impact for the organization. I have learnt the importance of building a great performing team and the unique pride that goes with observing team members developing in and across the organization. And finally, I can also say that I completed a world tour of different assignments and geographical responsibilities without leaving Paris: how unique this has been!
Career history at Hilti
I was happy to join Hilti after finishing my master studies in Civil Engineering as I always wanted to work in a field where I can deliver tangible outcomes within the construction industry.
During my first year, I worked in the marketing department from Business Unit Measuring.
This gave me the chance to get a glimpse over all our measuring product lines, and it was then when I got an affinity for software products and development.
I spent the last 4 years as a Software Product Owner, on a diverse set of domains – mobile/ desktop/ web applications and embedded software. I love the complexity of our measuring systems (combining easy to use software and mechatronics), the multidisciplinary teams and that I have the opportunity to learn something new every year. Last but not least, our direct sales approach enables me to get closer to the real work conditions of our end users and get direct feedback from them during our development cycles. And this is extremely valuable for the work of a product owner!
Being one of the first product owners within the business unit, my challenge was to make this role understood and accepted by the development and marketing teams. After 4 years, I am proud to see that people acknowledge the value of the role and it is highly requested in new projects.
What I appreciate the most at Hilti is that with strong will and curiosity, you can do anything! Working in software development without having software background never felt wrong – I’ve got a great coach along the way, possibilities to get the right certifications and the trust from management on taking new challenges. For me this makes Hilti special!
